How To Choose Your Diamond Color
Diamond color is rated on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (obviously yellow or brownish). Unless you are a diamond expert you will probably not be able to tell the difference between diamonds which are color graded D-I unless you are comparing diamonds side by side. Diamonds with higher color grades are rare and often command a premium price. However, color is largely a matter of personal preference and while some seek a near colorless diamond, others prefer a trace of color.
Color Grade D
D is the highest color grade and is reserved for a truly colorless diamond. It is completely colorless to the naked eye and much sought after because it is so rare.
Color Grade E
E grade diamonds are almost perfectly colorless, with only microscopic traces of color which can only be identified by diamond experts.
Color Grade F
F grade diamonds are almost totally colorless, with only minute hints of color which can only be detected by experienced gemologists.
Color Grade G
G grade diamonds appear nearly colorless to non diamond experts. This grade offers excellent value for money.
Color Grade H
H grade diamonds have a very slight tinge of color which is only perceptible when evaluated next to a colorless diamond. They appear nearly colorless to non diamond professionals and offer an excellent investment.
Color Grade I
I grade diamonds have very slight color traces which are only evident when compared to a colorless diamond. To non diamond professionals they appear nearly colorless.
Color Grade J
J grade diamonds have a very slight yellow tinge. They are an excellent choice for those on a budget who are not looking for a colorless diamond.
Color Grade K
K grade diamonds have a very minor yellow hue. They are popular choice for the budget conscious.
Color Grade L
L grade diamonds have a faintly tinted yellow color. They are a good alternative for those not looking for a colorless diamond, and who are seeking excellent value for money.
Color Grade M
M grade diamonds have a slightly noticeable yellow color. They are often a good choice for those not looking for a colorless diamond.
Color Grade N and Lower
N grade diamonds and lower color grades have lightly tinged yellow color. They are a good alternative for the budget conscious who prefer a diamond with some color.
