Black Diamond Engagement Ring – Case Study

Having the opportunity to create custom, handmade pieces of jewelry for our customers is one of our favorite things to do here at Israel-Diamonds.com. Our master designers delight in taking a customer’s idea and transforming it into a tangible, one-of-a-kind work of art.
While we’re experts at creating truly unique, custom designs, some of the requests we fulfill are a little more challenging than others. Whether it’s the complexity of a particular request or the gravity of the purpose a particular piece of jewelry is meant to serve, some designs simply inspire us. This is the story of one of those times.
Not too long ago, our skills were put to the test by a customer with a very specific and extremely special request. He needed a black diamond engagement ring crafted from an ink-pen sketch he drew up.
It All Began with an Email
The entire process began with a short, two-sentence email form the client that included the rough sketch of what he had in mind for the final design:
Intrigued and ready for the challenge, our designer got to work gleaning more detailed information from the customer to ensure our piece brought to life the image he had in his mind. After all, the black diamond engagement ring was meant to signify our customer’s undying love. It had to be perfect! We weren’t going to settle for anything less!
Once we got some detailed feedback from the client, a more elaborate-stone design began to take shape. After speaking with our designer, the customer provided a picture of a multi-stone ring he wanted us to use to inspire our design work.
I would like the ring to be in platinum with a black diamond in the center and the rest set in white diamonds.
Inspired we were!
Once we were on the same page, we went to work transforming our customer’s idea into a finished piece meant to last generations. To make this happen, our jewelers created a one-of-a-kind ring mold to meet the client’s specific request.
When it all came together, our final design included a tremendously eye-catching 2 carat round black diamond with a high-quality cut as the ring’s centerpiece. Set in platinum, the ring took shape as 50 smaller white diamonds were used to outline the black diamond. What resulted was a truly unique design to match the once-in-a-lifetime love our client and his partner share.
The Result:
While we were truly pleased with the final results, our client’s feedback left us ecstatic!
